Another day in Sarajevo

Last night I was privileged to be in a little place I like to hang out at, when the Special Police raided it…… I always enjoy being part of the news.

I spent some of my staring at the wall in a daze time today averaging how much sleep I get. In the last six weeks I have averaged 8 hours of sleep every two days.

I am amazed at my ability to gain weight under the strangest conditions. Most people would be loosing weight… Not me.

Tonight is a dress up night, going to do the schmoozing thing, reminds me of my days in the embassy. I need to go nap now.

My First Airbag

My first drivers side airbag meet my face (and arm) this week when I was run off the road by another vehicle, lost control in the gravel and slammed into a cement wall. I am a believer in airbags now.

I am fine. My arm looks bad and my neck was soar for a little but no injuries. The car that rammed me got away; hopefully it was just some dunk moron and not a bad guy.

That’s about all the interesting news from this side of the world.

Karadzic supporter held in Bosnia

Mr Bjelica's assets have been frozen
Nato-led forces in Bosnia have detained a man on suspicion of helping former Bosnian Serb leader and war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic escape arrest. Milovan Bjelica, a former mayor of the Bosnian Serb town of Pale, was arrested in the Serb-run town of Sokolac, near Sarajevo, S-For officials said. Mr Bjelica has long been considered a key member of Mr Karadzic's network.

His assets were frozen last year after he was named as Mr Karadzic's main communications link. Mr Karadzic has been indicted by the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague on charges of genocide and other crimes relating to the 1992-95 war in Bosnia. However, he has so far evaded capture. Mr Bjelica is the fourth Bosnian Serb to be detained by Nato peacekeepers this year on suspicion of aiding Mr Karadzic. The others were later released after several days of questioning. Last year, the international community's high representative in Bosnia, Paddy Ashdown, froze Mr Bjelica's financial assets and banned him from political office for his alleged role in helping Mr Karadzic.

___--------________
A western official who asked not to be named told AFP that "according to information from various sources, Bjelica was a key member of Karadzic's support network."

"If there is one man who knows where Radovan Karadzic is then Bjelica is that man," the official said.

"Whether or not SFOR is going to get more information from him is another matter, but he certainly is important," he added.

SFOR also announced it was carrying out a series of search operations in the Serb-run town of Sokolac, near Sarajevo, following Bjelica's arrest there.

The searches involving 30 personnel from an SFOR special unit targeted Sokolac municipal building and Bjelica's residence there, peacekeepers said in a statement.

Bjelica, a former mayor of the Bosnian Serb town of Pale, Karadzic's wartime stronghold, and a powerful businessman, was sacked last year by top international representative in Bosnia Paddy Ashdown for supporting Karadzic.

Well I successfully posted my last post 7 times thanks to the new blogger interface and my ignorance……

I have cruised the blogs of my peeps this evening and miss you freak sticks. Em, Withadot, Shan, Dan, Lea, boot head red, Grandpas chipmunk (your life is not being wasted… come visit!).

I watched the American guy execution video today. The dudes sawed his head off with a knife. I wish I could say it was the first time I had seen something like that… but it wasn’t.

The images really don’t affect me as much as the audio. The screaming and craziness. I actually plugged my ears the next three times it was played in the place…. Was a weird feeling. I think of people who are innocent and a bit naive and it makes me want to protect them from life, like I think they have a chance since they have not been corrupted by violence and the reality that the world is a scary fucking place.

No Sleep in Sarajevo

So I haven't slept more than 4 hours a night in over two weeks. I have people coming up to me at work saying "dude how do you do it" and my answer is "I am a baller dude"

The baller club is basically a group of three people here (including me) that no one can keep up with, be it staying awake, working, drinking or anything else. We started a quote log the other day so I will have to share some quotes in the coming months.

I have been working my ass off and then heading out till the wee hours of the day and night to take advantage of everything Sarajevo has to offer… which is pretty much clubs and red bull.

Today I rolled up to the intersection by my favorite club and the oldest mosque in the city.. My Baller and I where listening to Tenacious D. It occurred to me that we were probably the only people in history to have that experience….. "You don't always have to Fu*^ her hard, in fact sometimes that's not right to do"

My Peeps, you must come to Sarajevo

So Friday I closed on pad down town…. SWEET pad. It’s kind of by the embassy, with an awesome view or everything to include the old Olympic stadium. Its staggering distance from my favorite joints.

Everyone must come and visit now, plenty of room, plenty of fun. Make it happen people.

This is my issue.

There are many like it, but this one is MINE.
My issue is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life.

My issue without me is useless. Without my issue, I am useless.
I must be true to my issue.
I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me.
I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My issue and myself know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire,
the noise of our bursts, nor the smoke we make.

We know it is the hits that count. We will hit...
My issue is human, even as I, because it is my life.
Thus, I will make it a brother.
I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths.

My issue and myself are the defenders of all that is.
We are the masters of our enemy.
We are the saviors of my life.
